Karagahle Freewick is an older halfling woman possessing the vigor of a much younger woman. A few inches shy of four feet tall and possessing a plump, matronly-looking figure, she presents as someone concerned with maintaining a orderly appearance and living space. Her long black hair is peppered liberally with strands of grey and is typically drawn back into a neat bun held in place by spare twine and a pair of silver and oak knitting needles. Her face is round and friendly, with deep lines etched into her weathered skin around a thin mouth and keen amber eyes. She dresses simply but practically, preferring dresses in bright colors or pastels when at home and plain linen tunics and trousers in neutral colors when traveling. She wears little in the way of jewelry: a hammered silver wristband which was a gift from her daughter, a tiny gold locket with the image of her late husband painted inside, and a plain gold wedding band.
Karagahle, or Kara as she prefers to be called, is a rather typical aging grandmother, having retired six years ago after the death of her husband (twelve years her senior) from natural causes. She grew up and raised her family in Halmern. She has three grown children: Penelope, Jocasta, and Menelaus. In recent years, Menelaus left Halmern and Deloria in search of “adventure,” and Kara receives the occasional package with exotic souvenirs and gifts from far-off lands along with letters describing amazing and impossible exploits. Jocasta, fascinated with formulas and tinctures in the same way her father was fascinated by magical research, took over the family business after he died, keeping it running smoothly and ensuring her mother’s comfort in her older age. Penelope married several years ago and has a young daughter of her own, with another child on the way.
