Evacuation: Portal

After I murdered the helpless wizard, things quickly went downhill. His blood mixed with the woman’s in the circle. I suspect this might have strengthened the spell because two imps were summoned when the old man opened the door. The imps hit hard, and I hope the summoning spell was short term because we left one of them alive. After searching the apartment, we decided to go back because too much time had been spent trying to save an old man who didn’t want to be saved. I guess that’s what happens when I try to be assertive and commanding.

Theril, Marri, and I got back just as they were opening it. Joshua, Damala, and Fingers arrived also, as did Kelwyn, Rakir, and E-927. The first two had acquired goods from an abandoned store. The latter group had rescued villagers from fiery bats. Both had done better than me.

Before we entered the portal, Termis gave us a bag of dirt. Apparently the dirt can be used to open the portal back. It seems useless to me, why would we want to return to the conquered lands we worked so hard to flee? The portal was also somehow magically assaulted by Vremen when we went through it, and I believe Termis gave his life to save us.

The other side of the portal was a horrible desert. Termis had not made it through, and we were the last ones. Termis wouldn’t be the one to lead the survivors in creating a new town. I’m not even going to try, I don’t have the forceful personality necessary to be a good leader and I’m sure it’s a thankless job. I believe the job will fall onto the potion master. It’s funny, I don’t even know his name.

Most of us have decided to go exploring. We need to find better areas for the new city to be established. I believe Rakir and Kelwyn are staying behind to help digging wells. Karagahle will be going with us. She is a halfling woman that Joshua, Damala, and Fingers helped locate her daughter. Personally, I think she should stay to take care of her daughter, but I’m not a mother.

Evacuation: Remnants

As quickly as my new allies and I are brought together, we were dispersed once more. Bound by a common goal, we search for survivors, gather provisions, and do what we can in the limited time allotted.

A short discussion took place, as each of us spoke to what we could do to offer our assistance, before setting out to scour the city in search of completing the task at hand. Supplies were being unloaded as other groups reconvene on our location. One of the elves within our cadre began to transform, rearranging his body into the form of a wolf, darting off into the city alone.

Several others, a human, dwarf, two half-elves and a tiefling, set off in assisting the evacuation of the tenements. There they dispersed once more as they found several inhabitants still clinging to their homes, and what little they have to claim as their own.

Joshua, a rather large intimidating human, and the tiefling, Damala come into confrontation when they attempted to evacuate an occupied tavern. The bouncer seemed reluctant to leave, and with prejudice toward the tiefling, they were forced to find another means for which they could aid in the situation.

With assistance from an old door man at the inn, the others were successful in evacuating the families and children who were held up inside. Just as they were herding the refugees away, a large explosion toppled through the roof of the building. The Dwarf, Marri, and Half-elves, Yiviansey and Theril rushed to find the cause of the explosive crash in search of any who were caught victim.

Fingers, a rugged human, asked me to assist him as he was fond of procuring items in difficult situations. We happened upon a store most conveniently where we were able to gather tools and supplies to aid in the evacuation effort. Before setting back to the park, the battle overhead came crashing down as a body plummeted to our position. Finding a safer way of travel, Fingers lead us through a drainage system which brought us safely to the park.

In the park fingers scampered off to follow his own agenda, leaving me to drop off the procured necessities. Here Kelwyn returned with a group of refugees and alchemical supplies. Teaming up, we set off in search of any others we could find, where we met up with the dragonborn, Rakir who had little luck in his solo efforts.

Meanwhile at the inn, our 3 comrades found themselves confronted with the cause of the crash, as the body of an unconscious wizard sat against the wall. Much to their surprise they also found the bleeding corpse of an old woman, surrounded by chalk scribbled markings on the floor. A demonic ritual manifesting, Yiviansey quickly eradicated the threat of the waking wizard, hoping to gain some footing for the confrontation most likely to occur. Not to mention there were sounds of disturbance behind a closed door nearby, she had certainly made the proper choice as their situation was about to turn worse.


The war is nearly over for Deloria, and its great heroes have failed. Sparkling, half-melted shards fall from the Spire of Glass and rain down over the ragged remnants of the Crown’s army. The shockwave coming from the meteor strike-one of only dozens raining down on the city of Halmern tonight—blows most of the men clean off of their feet before the onrushing flames can broil them in their armor. Those who remain are easy pray for the press of acolytes skittering like roaches in advance of the great golems brought to hammer down the castle walls and doors. Against the starry curtain above, one can see mages from both sides taking to the sky, streaking back and forth like glowbugs, dancing embers over the burning city. The breaches in the city’s walls have been slowly widening in the past hour, and now the larger part of Vremen’s forces wait only for the end of the meteor storm to move into the city. Even now, though, the more disposable (or simply less disciplined) advance force has flooded some of the streets, taking the Eastern Warrens and the Goldstone District, moving in two diagonal lines to converge more or less intact on the palace grounds. But here in the South City Center, the battle is still just dim echoes and screams. In Valgrahf park, a last-ditch escape is being made. Termis Halford stands with eight of his apprentices in a great circle. They face inward, chanting over nine pots of burning incense. The ceremony has begun, and having secured the area, the drafted militiamen turn their eyes to the Potions Master (still wearing his lecturer’s wig, which hangs askew and forgotten in the evening’s chaos), who turns around to adress you. “This is it. Termis says he’ll have the portal open in twenty minutes. We still don’t know where it’ll take us, but it’s the best we can do with the materials at hand. Hurry now, and pray the clock tower doesn’t go down,” he says. The breathy affectation goes out of his voice, and he sounds younger, more vulnerable than he always has.


Eight months ago, after Gimwood fell, Halmern’s Collegium of Arcane Studies, the largest guild-run facility in the country, proposed a dramatic plan to evacuate the entire city to the allied nation of Hunngardt, but parliament unanimously rejected it. Attempts to appeal directly to the king were immediately shot down—losing the capitol would mean losing the entire nation, and furthermore, the Collegium’s duty (indeed, the duty of every stout-hearted patriot) to put the glory of the Monarchy before their lives should make their role in the coming conflict quite clear. Some did not give up. Termis, the Ritual Keeper, borrowed, bought, and stole what he could to complete a lesser ritual. He convinced eight students to do what twenty Masters were supposed to. Secretly he and the few who were convinced of the hopelessness of standing and fighting, of the cruel hubris in shutting the noncombatants inside the gates risked treason charges by reaching out to anyone who would help. Locals, foreigners, students, clergy, sellswords, streetrats, hungry purses, and open minds all saw the value of the plan. There would be parties sent out to haul supplies, to collect refugees, to defend the portal, and to make sure it all happened on the night of the attack, after it was too late for the authorities to step in and before the enemy overran the city completely.


Termis’s cloak billows as a strange, hot wind blows out from the center of the ring, sending streamers of sweet-smelling smoke in eight directions. You have your orders—go quickly, work together and secure supplies and refugees. Save as many people as you can by getting them safely to Valgrahf Park. In all directions save for north (where distantly lies the besieged palace), the city stretches away mostly intact, save for the few unfortunate blocks crushed and burned under falling meteorites.

Adventure Log

The adventure log probably won’t see as much use as the wiki, unless someone would like to keep up on it. PBP doesn’t need a log as much as a live game, I think.
